Lil CC: Drake Paid $20 000 for ‘Money In The Grave’ Beat

Drake has had a series of hits over the years, but “Money in the Grave” just might be his most expensive one.

During an interview with Shirley’s Temple, which dropped on Tuesday (June 13), producer Lil CC — who created the beat — revealed that the Scorpion King lined up 20 racks for her prized creation, and it was responsible for launching her career as well.

“Man, it was crazy,” she said. “I was like, ‘I fuck with this man.’ I was just like, ‘wow,’ knowing that someone believed in me that much, and supported what I did, it made me want to go even harder.”

She went on to explain that she specifically listened to the Rick Ross feature on the song because she’s a big fan and that this feature went on to launch her work with other artists like Lil Wayne.

Originally released in 2019, “Money in the Grave” was originally part of a two-pack of songs that Drake dropped to celebrate the Toronto Raptors becoming the NBA Champions that year.

The first song in the pack was titled “Omertá” — which is Italian for “honor” and is used in organized crime circles to indicate protecting one’s fellow co-conspirators — appeared to be written around the same time as it was dropped.

Throughout the track, he talked about his upcoming Las Vegas residency, his status on the Forbes Cash Kings List, and Pusha T’s “The Story Of Adidon” diss track.

“Last year, n-ggas got hot ’cause they told on me,” he spits.

The second cut was called “Money In The Grave” and features Rick Ross. It’s slightly more aggressive than “Omertá” and sends a clear signal his beef with Da Boss has officially come to an end.

Drake

“When I die, put my money in the grave/ I really gotta put a couple of n-ggas in they place/ Really just lapped every n-gga in the race/ I really might tat, ‘Realest N-gga’ on my face,” he raps.

In August 2019, Drake and Rick Ross dropped the official visuals for the track.

The video starts off in a remote oil field doubling as a dig site, as Drizzy with the dance moves shows off his footwork in a RZA T-shirt.

The visual quickly delivers several overt flexes between cameos of Rozay, the OVO private jet and of course, footage of Drake with the Raptors NBA Finals championship trophy live in concert.
