Travis Scott Confirms Utopia Release Date And Shares Circus Maximus Movie Trailer

Travis Scott has revealed the drop dates for two heavily-anticipated projects — his new album Utopia and an accompanying film called Circus Maximus — which were made at Rolling Loud Miami. The Houston rapper took to the stage at the much-lauded festival on Saturday (July 22). At the end of his nearly-hour-long set, he unleashed the Circus Maximus trailer exclusively for the crowd.

The trailer featured a performance by the Cactus Jack Records founder, alongside imagery like a scene from Pompeii, Italy, and a bush in the shape of a “U,” presumably as a nod to Utopia. Scott also said that the film would be “dropping in theaters.”

Speaking of Utopia, Travis Scott also confirmed that the album would be released on July 28 — the same day that Circus Maximus is scheduled to be released.

News of the release of Circus Maximus puts an end to the speculation that had surrounded the “secret” film.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Kids director Harmony Korine secretly directed an A24 movie written by and starring Travis Scott.

The movie they made is said to be an action-oriented feature film “shot entirely in infrared” that was reportedly recently test-screened at the Metrograph theater in New York.

As for Utopia, its latest single dropped on Friday (July 21) and features a pair of music titans in The Weeknd and Bad Bunny. The song, which is called “K-POP,” was produced by Boi-1da, Illangelo, Jahaan Sweet, and BNYX — the production unit behind many a Drake hit.

Meanwhile, Travis Scott’s Utopia concert at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt appears to be still going ahead, despite pushback from Egyptian authorities.

Live Nation issued a brief statement earlier this week confirming that the performance, which is due to be livestreamed, will still take place at the sacred location on July 28.

“There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt,” the company said. “Any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate Utopia with you in Egypt!”

The statement came after the Egyptian General Syndicate for Musical Professions, a group responsible for approving and issuing permits for concerts, reportedly revoked the permit for La Flame’s show.

In a statement, the Syndicate cited safety concerns and Scott’s “strange rituals,” which they claimed go against the country’s cultural identity and traditions.

Utopia will serve as the long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s Astroworld and Travis’ first album since the 2021 Astroworld Festival tragedy that killed 10 people.
