Quavo Confirms Posthumous Takeoff Album Is On The Way

Quavo has confirmed that a posthumous album honoring his late nephew and former Migos groupmate TakeOff is in the works. On Thursday (July 27), Huncho shared a candid YouTube conversation with fans in which he also opened up about the grief of losing TakeOff and where he’s at mentally heading into the release of his Rocket Power solo album.

The Migos rapper revealed that TakeOff will be sprinkled into Rocket Power but that there’s a larger play at work with a posthumous project from Take on the way.

“I use a couple of unreleased verses but I want to keep his stuff very, very, very sacred right now for his project. I don’t want to be pulling the stuff then we get to his project and not know what to do,” Quavo said.

“And knowing him, he like he want his shit right and hold it. I stay away from it and I just be hearing him talk to me all the time just be like — just so sacred and quiet and keep his stuff to him. So I just like to leave it alone and take what I got and take what we did together and be creative with verses and quotes he always said.”

Watch the clip below:

“Something about Take’s verses right now is just so ahead of their time. Like right now every time. Like he just did it, all the verses,” he continued, speaking on how fresh TakeOff’s verses still sound.

“So when his album come — the only person that went crazy after they went away was Pop — Pop Smoke had a great album and 2Pac.”

Quavo compared TakeOff to 2Pac from the standpoint of their abundant amount of material in the vault for posthumous releases. Huncho estimates that TakeOff could have over 1,000 unreleased songs across the board.

“Pop [Smoke] wasn’t out long enough so he couldn’t keep a lot of the stuff,” he added. “So I would put Take and 2Pac as far as the catalog and a whole bunch of music in the vault he can probably drop music for the next 10-15 years. In this phone alone it’s 150 songs.”

50 Cent previously encouraged Quavo to continue TakeOff’s mission and put together a posthumous album he would be proud of, much like 50 and Steven Victor did for Pop Smoke in 2020.

“This is really how it goes @QuavoStuntin you have to position this Album correctly for Take Offs Legacy, go make a couple of changes and address everything all artists make the best music out of painful moments,” he wrote. “R.I.P to Pop Smoke R.I.P to TakeOff.”

TakeOff was shot and killed outside of a Houston bowling alley in November 2022. Quavo looks to honor his nephew’s legacy with the release of his Rocket Power album next Friday (August 4).

Russ has shared his views on Spotify stats and how people shouldn’t view the popularity of an artist based on their monthly listeners — which he believes is “a facade.” In a new interview with the streaming giant, the Atlanta-via-New Jersey rapper spoke openly about his monthly listeners count while shouting out his “super listeners” who make up almost 10 percent of his fan base — a much higher portion compared to most other artists.

Russ

“Sat down with Spotify and got to finally debunk wtf monthly listeners means,” he wrote on Twitter. “Shoutout to all my ‘super listeners’. Super listeners on average make up 2% of an artist’s monthly listeners. Y’all make up 9% of mine.” Read more
