Chris Brown Laughs At Failed Efforts to Cancel Him After Ciara Collab Backlash

Chris Brown continues to be plagued by critics who believe she should’ve been “canceled” a long time ago, but the singer refuses to wave the white flag. The Virginia-bred hitmaker faced fresh backlash this week after joining forces with Ciara on her new single “How We Roll,” which arrived on Friday (August 4).

Despite them being two of the biggest R&B stars of their generation, it marks just the third collaboration between the pair following 2009’s “Turntables” and Ludacris’ “How Low (Remix),” which dropped the following year.

When CiCi announced the song on Instagram days earlier, some fans took to the comments section to express their disapproval of her working with a man who has been accused of violence against multiple women — most notably his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

“Who still works with Chris Brown these days? So disappointed and disgusted,” one fan wrote, while another put: “Damn this is so sad. I loved Ciara so much.”

Someone else called out Ciara by writing: “He has a long record of abusing women but I guess that doesn’t matter to you.”

It appears that Chris Brown caught wind of the criticism, and while plugging his and Ciara’s new single on social media following its midnight release, he took a moment to fire back at the hate.

“WEIRDOS: didn’t we cancel Chris Brown?” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “Me: IM STILL ALIVE [smirking face emoji].”

Produced by Precision Productions, Deli Banger, and Mr Kamera, “How We Roll” serves as the first single from Ciara’s upcoming project CiCi, which is set to drop on August 18.

The sultry, laidback record is accompanied by a cinematic video that pits CiCi and Breezy as friendly rivals when it comes to throwing parties and busting a move on the dancefloor.

After strutting their stuff in the back of separate trucks that cruise side by side on the freeway, a literal bridge is formed between the two shipping containers, paving the way for an intimate dance-off between the R&B stars.

“How We Roll” also extends Ciara’s recent purple path, following previous singles like “JUMP” with Coast Contra, “Better Thangs” with Summer Walker, and “Da Girls,” as well as the international-flavored “Slow” with Hong Kong star Jackson Wang and “Get Loose” with Indonesian singer Agnez Mo.

“Better Thangs” and “Da Girls” both received remixes with some of the rap game’s brightest female talents, with GloRilla jumping on the former, and Lola Brooke and Lady London linking up with CiCi on the latter.
