Metro Boomin Takes Credit For Reviving Rap

Metro Boomin

Metro Boomin has taken credit for Hip Hop’s heat streak over the past few months, insinuating that he is breathing new life into the genre.

Taking to his Instagram on Thursday (May 3), the super-producer posted photos of himself in the studio, alongside a photo of a jacket that read “WE DON’T TRUST YOU,” implying that he’s hard at work on the next masterpiece.

“HIP-HOP IS ALIVE AND WELL,” he wrote in the caption.

Check it out below.

Part of Metro Boomin’s confidence stems from the success of his recent projects. In addition to the collaborations with Future on the aforementioned, We Don’t Trust You, the super-producer recently teamed up with The Alchemist and Kevin Durant to create their sneaker collections with Nike.

Metro’s shoe — aptly called the KD 17 “Metro Boomin” — pays homage to the producer’s blockbuster album Heroes & Villains with an electrifying, purple-and-blue design.

The tongue also nods to his previous album, 2018’s Not All Heroes Wear Capes, and its jumping man silhouette, while the left heel features a purple “Leslie” signature, honoring Metro’s late mother.

The Alchemist’s shoe — the KD 17 “The Alchemist” — features his ALC Records logo on the tongue and comes in a Coconut Milk colorway, with splashes of Atomic Violet and Hyper Grape.

The unique kicks come courtesy of Durant’s “Producer Series,” which highlights his love of the sonic architects behind the culture. Fellow producer Bink! (Kanye West’s “Devil in a New Dress,” JAY-Z’s “Blueprint”) also has his shoes.

The Nike KD 17 is set to hit shelves on May 17 in the standard “Sunset” colorway. The “Producer Series” styles are expected to follow in the coming months, retailing for $160 each.

Though Kevin Durant is widely considered a Hip Hop connoisseur, he was trolled online earlier this year after naming one of Drake’s recent LPs as his favorite album of all time.

The Phoenix Suns shared a video montage on Instagram in which members of their roster were asked to name one record that personally resonates with them the most.

Players responded with a wide range of picks, with Bradley Beal naming The Off Season by J. Cole, Josh Okogie going with SLIME SEA2ON by Young Thug, and Damion Lee picking The Black Album and The Blueprint by JAY-Z.

KD, however, responded: “My favorite album of all time has to be Drake’s CLB [Certified Lover Boy].”

The Game has taken a shot at J. Cole for apologizing to Kendrick Lamar and what he perceives as “watered down” rap feuds. The Compton native, who is no stranger to beef having sparred with the likes of 50 Cent, JAY-Z, Meek Mill, and Eminem, was reacting to a post from The Joe Budden Podcast co-host Lamar “Ice” Burney.

“I want one of these rap n-ggas to diss Game. Just so ya’ll see what a proper diss record looks like,” Ice wrote on X (formerly Twitter) following the release of Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss song “Euphoria.” Read more
