A Travellers Guide To Paris During The Olympics

Travellers Guide To Paris

The French capital of Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world and, over the next two months, the city is set to get even busier as the 2024 Summer Olympics take place from July 26 to August 11. More than 15 million visitors are expected to travel to Paris, making it an electrifying time to experience the city.

“Paris is always a city full of life, but the Olympic Games add a whole new level of excitement and energy,” says Wilson Tauro, Country Manager Southern Africa at Air France-KLM. “It’s a perfect time to visit, with countless events, unique experiences, and the unparalleled charm of Paris on full display.”

If you’re heading to Paris during the 2024 Summer Olympics, Air France shares some tips to make the most out of your visit:

Olympic Fever Will Be In Full Swing

Paris is allowing people to swim in the Seine for the first time ever this year; athletes will take part in open-water swimming, paratriathlon, and triathlon competitions. After the Olympics, the river will be open to the public to swim in too. The Seine will also host an incredible Opening Ceremony, held on the river rather than in a stadium for the first time in Olympic history, with a boat for each national delegation.

Didn’t Get Tickets? No Problem!

You can still take in all the sporting action – even without a ticket. France is ensuring that fans can get a glimpse of the action almost everywhere. Public screens will be put up, and bars and cafes will be screening various events. Additionally, performances, parades, cultural events, and other Olympic-related festivities will be happening throughout the city.

Air France To Host Experiences Around The City

From July 27 to August 11, 2024, Air France invites everyone to explore its world within the walls of the Palais de Tokyo. Visitors of all ages can access the site free of charge and wander around an area spanning over 850 sq. m dedicated to the company. The focal point will be the Air France restaurant, which will open specially for the occasion. With a seating capacity of 80 places, the restaurant will offer culinary delights usually served exclusively on board Air France’s long-haul Business cabin, crafted by triple Michelin-starred French chef Arnaud Lallement. The menu will feature desserts by Nina Métayer, recently voted World Pastry Chef in 2024 by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards. A selection of wines, champagnes, and a wide choice of drinks will also be on offer.

From August 28 to September 8, 2024, Air France will continue showcasing its products and services at SPOT24, located next to the Eiffel Tower. The company will display its latest long-haul Business seat and promote its SAPHIR assistance service for customers with disabilities.

Landmark Attractions Will Be On Full Display

With the remarkable Olympic atmosphere set to take Paris by storm, popular French landmarks will be bustling – and travellers should make the most of it. Visit iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur Basilica, the Louvre Museum, the Grand Palais, and enjoy gardens like the Tuileries Garden, Jardin du Luxembourg, and the iconic Champ de Mars.

Paris is set to have the most electrifying atmosphere over the next few weeks and if you do find yourself in the city during the 2024 Summer Olympics, you’re in for a treat. The city’s blend of historic charm and modern excitement will be amplified by the Olympic festivities, creating an unforgettable experience for those visiting.
